Our Story
The progress and prosperity of any society are measured by its values of compassion, solidarity, and mutual support. Inspired by these principles, the International Charity Organization for Water (ICOW) was established to fulfill the vision of its founders: ensuring sustainable access to safe drinking water for communities most in need. Originally founded as the Sudanese International Water Organization, ICOW began as a specialized humanitarian organization focused on addressing water scarcity in remote and underserved villages. Through its water projects, the organization has played a significant role in improving access to clean water and helping communities overcome the challenges of limited water resources.
With renewed ambition and a broader global vision, the organization entered its second phase by transforming from a local initiative into the International Charity Organization for Water (ICOW)— a non-profit humanitarian organization established under the Sudanese Voluntary and Humanitarian Work Act and officially registered with the Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC), Sudan, under Registration No. 3323.
Today, the organization operates across several states in Sudan and beyond, including the Republic of Chad, while also providing humanitarian assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees.

The Challenge We Address
Throughout our work, we have witnessed the daily struggles faced by countless villages and rural settlements suffering from severe water shortages. Despite receiving abundant seasonal rainfall, many communities are unable to benefit from these natural resources due to inadequate water harvesting, storage, and management.
Limited access to safe water has contributed to the displacement and instability of many communities. Women and children are often forced to travel long distances to collect water, resulting in poorer health outcomes, interrupted education, increased illiteracy, and reduced opportunities for economic productivity and community development.
